About Alice

Alice Little

Alice is an author of short fiction. Her writing is inspired by early twentieth-century literature and often explores themes of family relationships and moral conundrums. Having spent over a decade working as a musician, and now as a music historian, her work often features musical characters or, occasionally, their instruments.

She is Associate Writer in Residence at Wytham Woods, the woodland of the University of Oxford, where she runs workshops and projects, and out of which a new anthology of her short stories will be published by Holywell Press in 2023.

As an editor, Alice has worked on five collections of short stories by various authors, with a sixth to be published by Enliven Press in 2023.

Alice runs events and training to support other authors: Alice is Director of Didcot Writers, runs research projects and courses for the Oxford Centre for Life-Writing, and co-ordinates the Society of Authors’ Oxfordshire group. She was Operations Director for Oxford Writers House from 2018-19 and is now Head of Programmes for Oxford Writing Mentors. In addition to running workshops and offering mentoring and manuscript assessments for writers at all stages, she provides tutoring in Creative Writing to students at Exeter College and Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.

Reviews

I loved these brilliant, jewel-like stories; I know that I shall still be thinking about them, days after reading them.

Rachel Waters, on the anthology 'Last Worshipper at the Shrine'

A really entertaining read and a good varied range of stories... covering a range of styles and moods from black comedy to lighter humour, with some twists en route. Some will make you think, some might bring you up in surprise. I was left wanting to read more.

Mike Evis, on the anthology 'The Morning After'

You got me hooked and left me wanting more!

Maggie Elliott, on the short story 'June' now available as part of an anthology

As usual, your attention to the small details is what sells this... you have a great way with words and some fabulous ideas.

Fiona Clegg, on the short story 'Inside Outside', published in the collection Inside Out in July 2018
